NRJ TV ?

"Le groupe NRJ va investir massivement dans le télévision"

Lancement de la télé en mars 2005 sur la TNT ("les échos").
Le cabinet Arthur D. Little a estimé la valeur de NRT TV à 500 millions d'Euro du seul faut de posséder la fréquence (due à la rareté). Sur ce coup je suis épaté.

Sponsor music!

As indicated earlier in this blog, our ambition is to develop a system by which artists and music professionals can make a decent living (ourselves included ;).

I would like to share one plan that looks promising.

Flowaves, the company that employs the Livemusic team, organized a party for its employees and partners in July. For this occasion, we rented a bar and organized a concert with the rock group Myassa.
Everyone was happy: the group was able to perform and record an album, and our employees and partners were delighted.

The evening cost us just over 2000euros, including renting the venue as well as providing an open bar and dinner for approximately 50 people. Myassa didn’t receive money on this occasion.
The recording and production of 1000 CDs cost an additional 2000euros.

We will offer this CD to our clients. For a reasonable cost, we’re communicating our company values and demonstrating that we’re humane, generous and open to society.
Additionally, Myassa is able to use this CD to promote their music.

We wanted to push this experience a little bit father by recording a DVD. Myassa’s concert at “La Scène” is currently being edited. We’ll talk more about this in the coming days.

This example is interesting because it’s something we can do for any company that might be interested, regardless of their size:
- A law firm could sponsor a piano or vocal concert
- A beer manufacturer could sponsor a bar with live music
- Etc….

We are also looking into other solutions involving mobile telephones and music blogs.
This project is long-term. The Livemusic team is working to find sources of revenue.
It’s not an easy job, so posts on this blog have been a bit spread out.

Thanks for your patience and support.

Take a sad song and make it better

Young consumers are accustomed to downloading music for free. It is illusory to think that they will modify their habits overnight.

Today, customers who partake in legal downloading services (iTunes and others) are for the most part used to buying CDs.

The adolescents who use Kazaa will not change their ways right away.

Established artists (U2, Prince, Madonna, etc.) will most likely continue earning money from CD sales.

Thus, for new artists, how to succeed?

Let’s begin by acknowledging that there isn’t room for everyone: To be able to live off of your art is a gift of destiny.

Perhaps we have to get back to the basics.

The Beatles started out playing in a tavern in Liverpool. They learned their art and built a public by performing live year after year.

It’s true that in France, and in Paris in particular, it’s difficult to earn a living as a performing musician.
Improving the odds for musicians will be a primary objective of FlowavesMusic.

The Livemusic team

We all work for the same company. A passion for music – be it classical, rock, folk, world, or jazz – is something we share.

The music industry needs to evolve. We decided we could help this process by bringing our complementary expertise to the table. (A technology pro, a marketing maven, a communications expert…)

Impassioned discussions gave rise to our Livemusic project. We manage it in parallel with our daily activities.

We have some strong convictions:

Respect and confidence are primary
Musicians today are humiliated. Their need for recognition runs deep. Confidence is the first thing that we must restore. This blog is our means of working transparently while ensuring honest and open communication.

We need to invent new ways of promoting and distributing music
In times of change, it’s useless to replicate old methods. There’s only one way: to invent.

The Livemusic project should be profitable
Profit is not what drives us. But the profitability of the project is important to ensuring its durability.
There is no alternative to the market economy. We don’t intend to destroy the system, only render it more human and reasonable.

We have chosen a method that is empirical and experimental. Working with groups like “Myassa” will allow us to test different ideas and to mix pleasure and business.

This blog is the story of Livemusic and the story of its artists.

Livemusic

Live music is back.

The public wants it. Up-and-coming bands have it. It’s a question of helping them find each other.

Livemusic aims to experiment with new kinds of promotion being made available by new technologies. It’s a laboratory in the service of artists, helping the music find its public. Efficiently. Honestly.

We need your ideas. This blog is open to anyone who values music.
